Thought Leadership
Experience, and Advocacy in Action
This month, our firm continues to prioritize education, preparation, and thoughtful advocacy in family law. February is often a time when people begin asking deeper questions about relationships, boundaries, and long-term decisions, and early legal insight can make a meaningful difference.
Earlier this month, Katie L. Lewis was honored to serve as a speaker at the Dallas Family Law Bench Bar Conference, joining more than 350 Dallas family law attorneys, paralegals, and judges to discuss evolving issues in Texas family law and best practices for serving families with clarity and care. Opportunities like this keep our team closely connected to the courts, current trends, and practical strategies that directly benefit our clients.
At KLL Family Law, our clients deserve more than experience — they deserve attorneys who are continuously sharpening their edge.
That's why our team attended the 2026 TAFLS Trial Institute in Nashville, joining top family law specialists from across Texas for one of the profession's most respected advanced trial programs.
Learning. Connecting. Elevating.
From advanced courtroom strategy to deeper litigation insight, we are committed to bringing the latest trial techniques and refined advocacy skills to every case we handle.
Because when it matters most, preparation and precision make the difference.
Why Temporary Orders Matter
More Than Most People Realize
Temporary orders often set the tone for the rest of a family law case. These early decisions can impact custody arrangements, financial responsibilities, and overall leverage throughout the process.
Many people underestimate how influential this phase can be. Understanding what temporary orders address and how to prepare for them helps avoid rushed decisions and protects long-term interests from the very beginning.
Introducing the
Representation Options Matrix
Divorce is one of the most important transitions in life, and the legal support you choose can make all the difference. Many people believe they need an aggressive attorney to protect their interests, while others consider handling the process on their own. Both approaches carry real risks.
At Katie L. Lewis, P.C. Family Law, we believe in a thoughtful, strategic approach that balances strong legal advocacy with emotional intelligence.
Our Representation Options Matrix compares our approach with aggressive litigation and DIY divorce so you can clearly understand your options and choose what best serves your future.
Dating During Divorce
What Texas Law Says
Many people wonder whether it is okay to date while going through a divorce in Texas. While there is no law that outright prohibits dating during divorce proceedings, it is important to understand that Texas does not recognize legal separation. This means you are still legally married until your divorce is finalized.
Certain actions, particularly sexual relationships or spending marital funds on a new partner, could potentially be raised in court and may impact property division, spousal support, or custody if a child's well-being is affected.
Dating itself is not illegal, but many family law attorneys recommend proceeding carefully to avoid unnecessary complications.
A Feel-Good Story Worth Sharing
High School Students Repair Cars and Give Them to Single Moms
At Louisa County High School in Virginia, automotive technology students are making a real difference in their community. Through a partnership with the nonprofit Giving Words, students spend months repairing and refurbishing donated cars and then present them with a big bow to single mothers who need reliable transportation. Over the past eight years, the program has refurbished more than 60 vehicles and repaired over 260, giving students hands-on experience and recipients a life-changing gift. One mom said it was not just about the car but about community.

Early Conversations Lead to Better Outcomes
February is often when individuals begin asking important questions but hesitate to seek legal guidance until a crisis occurs. Early conversations allow for proactive planning, clearer expectations, and smoother processes.
We appreciate your continued trust and partnership and remain available for confidential consultations when your clients are seeking clarity before making major decisions.
A Centering Thought
Thank you for being part of our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve families with integrity, compassion, and strong legal strategy. However this season looks for you, we hope it brings moments of peace and renewed hope.
Warmly,
Katie L. Lewis, P.C. Family Law
