Biography

Andrew S. Kerns, Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, is a Partner at Katie L. Lewis, P.C. Family Law. An accomplished litigation and trial attorney, Mr. Kerns has appeared in court hundreds of times across Texas and California and has led over 50 trials as first chair. Since joining the firm in 2020, he has brought substantial courtroom experience and a commitment to achieving favorable outcomes for his clients. Prior to joining Katie L. Lewis, P.C., Mr. Kerns spent seven years as lead trial attorney with the prestigious family law firm Claery & Hammond, LLP, in Los Angeles, representing clients in Divorce, Paternity, Protective Orders, Juvenile Dependency, and Probate matters. His clients have ranged from small business owners and stay-at-home parents to high-profile individuals, including business moguls, celebrities, and musicians.

Mr. Kerns also gained invaluable experience as a federal judicial extern for U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Manske in the Western District of Texas, Waco Division.

Originally from Southern California, Mr. Kerns graduated with honors from the University of California at Berkeley in 2007, with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Italian Studies. Pursuing his passion for trial advocacy, he relocated to Texas in 2009 to attend Baylor Law School, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class with honors. During law school, Mr. Kerns served as an associate editor of the Baylor Law Review and authored the article, "Fight or Flight: Traversing the Extraterritorial Battlefield of Modern United States Patent Law," published in the Spring 2011 edition of the Baylor Law Review.

After law school, Mr. Kerns practiced in the civil litigation section at Kelly Hart & Hallman, LLP in Fort Worth before moving to Los Angeles in 2012 to join Claery & Hammond, LLP. His dedication and skill have been recognized through his selection as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in Family Law in Southern California in 2020 and in Texas from 2021 to 2024.

Mr. Kerns resides in Dallas, Texas, with his wife, Abbey, who grew up in Keller, Texas, and attended the University of Oklahoma.
