Mr. Kerns is an experienced litigation and trial attorney, having made hundreds of appearances in court in both Texas and California, and first-chairing over 50 trials. Before joining the team at Katie L. Lewis, P.C. in 2020, Mr. Kerns spent seven years as lead trial attorney for a prestigious family law firm in Los Angeles, California - Claery & Hammond, LLP - focusing on Divorce, Paternity, Protective Order, Juvenile Dependency, and Probate actions. He has represented a wide variety of clients, from small business owners and stay-at-home mothers to business moguls, celebrities, and musicians. He also spent time as a federal judicial extern for U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Manske at the U.S. Magistrate's Office, Western District of Texas, Waco Division.

Born and raised in Southern California, Mr. Kerns graduated with honors from the University of California at Berkeley in 2007, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Italian Studies. Dedicated to pursuing a career as a trial attorney, Mr. Kerns then moved to Texas in 2009 to attend the renowned trial advocacy program at Baylor Law School. In 2011, Mr. Kerns received his Juris Doctorate from Baylor Law School, again with honors, where he finished in the top 10% of his class. While at Baylor Law School, Mr. Kerns was an associate editor of the Baylor Law Review and authored an article "Fight or Flight: Traversing the Extraterritorial Battlefield of Modern United States Patent Law" that was published in the Baylor Law Review, Spring 2011. After graduation, Mr. Kerns worked in the civil litigation section of Kelly Hart & Hallman, LLP in Fort Worth, Texas before moving to Los Angeles, California in 2012 to join Claery & Hammond, LLP

In 2020, Mr. Kerns was selected as a SuperLawyers Rising Star in Southern California in the area of Family Law.

Mr. Kerns currently lives in Dallas, Texas with his wife, Abbey, who was raised in Keller, Texas and attended the University of Oklahoma.
