What are some essential topics for your parenting plan?

As you plan out your life after divorce, the health and well-being of your children are likely one of your top priorities.

Being able to include important topics and guidelines in your parenting plan can help you relax and feel confident in your children’s futures.

According to Psychology Today, one of the biggest changes is determining where your children will go for each holiday or family gathering. Making it clear who is responsible for the children at different times during the week or month is important for planning long-term.

Writing up a schedule that stays the same from year to year can help your children adjust to life after their parents’ divorce. You should also take note of any school breaks or days off so that you can coordinate who needs to pick up or drop off your children.

Having written plans in place in the event of a health emergency can help prevent panic if a problem happens unexpectedly. This plan should include all your children’s allergies and the names of the doctors your children regularly see.

You may even want to clarify who should take your children to the hospital or if they should contact you in a non-emergency situation.

While your children may be younger when you divorce, it does not mean you should not plan ahead for what schools they may attend in the future. Having a plan with your ex-spouse that covers religious education and any future school tuitions can help you have peace of mind as your children grow up.

Crafting a parenting plan that suits your children is an important part of child custody.
